Dear North Whidbey Middle School Community,
We wanted to provide an update following our lockdown earlier today. The school went into lockdown after reports of gunshots in the area. We immediately contacted law enforcement and implemented our safety procedures as a precautionary measure. Shortly after placing the school in lockdown, police informed us that it was safe to return to normal operations after confirming there was no threat to safety.
All students and staff were safe inside the school with the doors locked during the lockdown. We want to thank our students, staff and emergency responders for their quick action to implement our safety procedures. We also want to thank our families for staying calm and allowing our staff and law enforcement to implement our safety plan. The safety and well-being of our students and staff are always our top priority and we appreciate your continued partnership in maintaining a safe learning environment for our students.
If you would like to know more about our safety protocols, please go to the Oak Harbor Public Schools website. We also have put together a webpage for families to reference to be better prepared for future potential emergencies.
Thank you,
Russ Peters
Principal
