Reminder from the OHPS Transportation Department Ahead of New School Year

Posted Date: 8/14/25 (3:30 PM)

Two yellow school buses are parked, with a message from the OHPS Transportation Department.
Dear Oak Harbor Public School Families,

We are excited to welcome you and your student to the upcoming school year. Ahead of the first day of school, we wanted to provide an update and a few reminders as our team works hard to provide transportation to more than 1,500 students in the Oak Harbor Public Schools.

Families Must Request Transportation Every Year
Regular transportation is provided for students residing outside the one-mile walking area of their home school attendance area.
Even if your student received transportation services last school year, you must submit a transportation request every year. This ensures eligibility and keeps routes up to date every school year. Please submit your transportation request using the appropriate form located on the OHPS website

What to Expect
Our team is working hard to assign routes as soon as possible and anticipate being able to provide information to families about assigned routes and eligibility in early September. You will receive an email notification if your student has been accepted to receive transportation or not and how to find information about your student's route using the BusRight application. The BusRight app will allow you to, in real-time, follow your student's bus route to and from school, receive notifications when the bus begins and ends its route, and view the expected arrival time at your student's designated bus stop.

We encourage you to learn more about our BusRight system and our school bus code of conduct on the OHPS website under "Resources" and "Transportation." Please note, the first week of the school year always comes with delays for our school buses. Elementary school buses need to also pick up students at Oak Harbor Intermediate School, which dismisses at 3:40 PM. We ask for your patience and cooperation during the first few weeks as our students and bus drivers adjust to their new routes.

Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our roads and students safe to and from school every day.

Sincerely,

OHPS Transportation Department
