vertbar.GIF (813 bytes)      Welcome to the 7th Grade Voyagers! We are a team. We believe that each person can learn; each person has the right to learn; and each person has the responsibility to learn. In order for this to become a reality, we expect three things of our students: be responsible for your learning; show respect for yourself, other people, and all property; and participate actively. These simple expectations have successfully made the Voyager team of teachers and students a powerful learning force at North Whidbey Middle School!

The Voyager teachers work daily to create valuable learning experiences for the team. We each teach classes in our subject area as well as one period of Reading. We coordinate and collaborate with the special service providers at North Whidbey so that we can offer individualized instruction for our diverse team of learners. Each teacher has personal planning time during third period, from 9:32 - 10:15 a.m. We meet daily as a team during 4th Period,
10:17 - 11:00, at which time we do instructional planning, parent conferences, and team planning. If you would like to meet with our team for a conference, please schedule it through our team counselor: Emily Southwick (279-5506). If you have a question about an individual subject, please contact that teacher directly via voice-mail or e-mail.

The Voyager Team is currently using the homework hotline 279-5988 to post daily homework assignments. Our extension is 7001. We encourage you to use this as a backup, NOT as the primary source for assignments! Your study buddies will help, but your first and most important resource is your assignment calendar! We know and expect you to use your calendar daily!

The Voyager team has consistent rules in all team classes, following the school rules specified in the school planner. One of these rules is that work may be turned in one day late, receiving full credit IF IT IS ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT NOTE OF EXPLANATION. Read the rest of your planner to learn about the rules regarding work missed during excused absences.

The Voyager team of teachers is a close-knit, dedicated group. We love doing what we do and being where we are, spending our days with energetic seventh graders. If you are going to be with us, we expect that you will have an awesome year, learning about so many incredible things: social studies of the world from 600 to 1600; all things science, from the cell to dissection; fractions to graphing to orders of operations, mathematically speaking; and the skills you will need to write amazing persuasive and expository essays! We will introduce you to reading strategies in each of our very different Reading classes - most of you will rotate through four different Reading teachers during the year.

Hold on tight....it's going to be an incredible 7th grade year! We are so happy that you are a part of our team.
