Spanish My name is Señora Jesus and I will be your son/daughter’s Spanish teacher this year. I will be spending 47 minutes each day with him/her. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself, both professionally and personally. This is my 9th year of teaching. I substituted for one year at the elementary level in the Oak Harbor School District and during the 1997-1998 school year; I worked as a Special Education Instructional Assistant at North Whidbey Middle School. I attended Western Washington University, where I received my teaching certificate along with a major in Spanish, spring quarter of 1996. Also, in July of 2004, I graduated with my Masters of Education in Technology through Lesley University. Teaching is much more than just a job to me. It is a commitment I take very seriously. My goal as a teacher is to dedicate myself to helping your son/daughter to reach their full potential this year. I hold high expectations for your son/daughter and I will do all I can to help him or her meet those expectations. My teaching philosophy includes cooperation, respect, understanding and integrity. I apply these attributes and will expect them in return from your son/daughter. I look forward to an exciting and productive school year.Syllabus: SPANISH MEANS SPEAK ONLY IN SPANISH The method of teaching used is called the Natural Approach. This method is a mixture of reading, writing, listening, speaking, singing, drawing, acting, games and storytelling. This is an oral method, therefore, participation and attendance is important. *It is also important for each student to study 15 minutes every night and to participate. Projects are assigned to help students acquire the Spanish vocabulary. There will be 1 project and 1 presentation each quarter. In class work, homework, quizzes and tests are given to assess student knowledge of the Spanish vocabulary for each chapter, mini stories and novels.
