  Mrs. Paitson, C.P.P., Certified Prevention Professional, has served at North Whidbey Middle School as Preventionist since 2003. Mrs. Paitson was trained in prevention theory and community planning by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) in Washington, D.C. and by the Department of Social Health Services (DSHS) in Olympia, Washington.

Using games, art, listening, and confidentiality, Mrs. Paitson provides individual counseling to students affected by peer pressure and/or substance abuse. She conducts educational support groups that address resiliency, and links students and families to community resources. In addition, Mrs. Paitson provides drug, alcohol and tobacco education to referred students, facilitates special events, conducts surveys and pre-screens students for referral to community service providers.
